Why U2 is no longer my all-time favorite band

Why U2 is no longer my all-time favorite band

If having an all-time favorite band is childish then call me bubba (thanks Troy!)  I have lived my whole life with one all-time favorite band.  I lost my music virginity to U2 and we have been jealous lovers ever since. Well, until recently.  The worst part is that U2 did nothing wrong.  In fact, I thought U2’s latest release is one of their best in a long time.  That fact plus Bono’s recent injury make what I am about to say so difficult…

I first became aware of Sleeping at Last when I accidentally stumbled across them on Pandora in 2009.  I started digesting Storyboards as fast as I could.  I loved it.  But I also loved Ten by Pearl Jam and that does not an all-time favorite band make. Then I remember discovering they were doing something new while watching shows like Grey’s Anatomy (yes, I know.)   Those tracks were so fantastic that you couldn’t pay attention to what the scene was about. But honestly, with Grey’s Anatomy it didn’t actually matter what the scene was about.  That show was like Downton Abbey for people who never learned to read. It was so good!

Concerning Girls and Art

Concerning Girls and Art

As I return to the blog world I revamped the site and added re-arranged the categories.  Then Lori and I saw this piece of work at The Modern Museum in Ft Worth and I new I had to have blog categories called “girls” and “art.”  I may like it for an obvious reason (I have 3 beautiful blonde girls in constant orbit) but this art awakened itself to me in a way that helped me appreciate the rest of the art we were beholding.  I was inspired to purchase a museum membership on the way out!

Why I haven’t blogged in 2 years

Why I haven’t blogged in 2 years

2 Years ago today was my last blog.  It is fair to say that much has changed. The break wasn’t intentional for a certain length of time but as time passed I sensed it wouldn’t be a short time.  Why?  I felt that although I was honest in all that I had blogged over the 4 years prior to the break, there was a growing sense that I couldn’t communicate all I was feeling about life, love, God, family, art, travel and more.  But mostly about God and about love and about how they are synonymous.

So here is the letter I wrote myself yesterday and read to myself today.  I think it encapsulates the past two years journey and will be a theme for me in the many new blogs to come (along with certain tomfoolery along the way.)

What do you crave?

What do you crave?

The other day I woke up craving donuts. This is not a usual craving for me so it struck me kind of weird. It makes me wonder why we crave the things we crave. In this case, I’m convinced its because I’ve been eating junk since thanksgiving. The body is weird like that. It will crave what we tell it to crave. No one likes their first sip of black coffee yet millions have trained their bodies to wake up longing for that taste and the effects that come with it (me included!)

Losing Your Influence 101

Losing Your Influence 101

Whether you are a pastor or business owner (and I’ve been both) losing influence with your team is the sure fire way to make sure that your mission never gets realized.  But doing this is tricky because everyone on your team has a different personality, different passions and different motivations.  Making sure that none of them want to follow you is going to take a big effort so here we go.

First, you must make sure that they know 100% that you do not care about them.  Things like showing up and helping when they move, getting involved in their humanitarian work and remembering their kids names will get you nothing but support when you present new ideas.  And let’s face it,  team support for new ideas is the fuel for growth and that just won’t do.
